Development
Phase 2
Sunday June 9th 2002 was a special day in the history of St. Malachy's G.A.C. Castledawson
with the official opening and blessing of the new pitch at Broagh Road. A Prunty
sand carpet playing surface completely fenced with new dug outs, ball catchers and
posts replaces the old field that was in use since the early 1960's. The stoned
pitch surround and hill to the right are spectator friendly and allow suitable car
parking facilities when needed. The main car park has been enlarged, stoned and
fenced with a shrubbery created along the pavilion and new entrance gates bearing
the club and GAA crests have been erected. A truly magnificent complex to compete
with the best in the County and a credit to all those members and friends who through
their dedication, hard work and generosity were responsible for bringing a dream
to reality.
Phase 1
December 14th 1996 was a memorable day in the history of St Malachy’s Castledawson
with the official opening of the new £200,000 pavilion and changing rooms by the
then president of the association Jack Boothman - completion of phase 1 of a five
year development plan and credit to the foresight and hard work of the then ruling
committee, members and friends of the club with out whose help this could never
have happened.
