Weekly Report Monday November 4th 2002 - 04/11/2002

Sadness returned to our community once again last week with the death of Mrs Elizabeth Hanson of Parker Avenue in the town. The committee and members extend their deepest sympathy to the family circle.

The annual youth awards night will be in the pavilion on Friday November 15th starting at 7.30pm. Presentations will be made in all age groups in camogie up to U-14 and in football to U-16. More details later.

Tickets are now available from committee members for the annual dinner dance and presentation night that will be held in "The Elk" on Friday December 6th. Music for the night will be by Belfast band Shannaghy, who were so well received at the B.B.Q. in August and in addition Gerard McStocker & Friends will do a special ceili dance session, so everyone will be catered for. This is a night for all members, young and not so young to get together and have a good night out, so book the tickets early and let's make it a night to remember.

At this stage of the year members should be giving serious thought as to who they might nominate for club person of the year and to the players who might be their player of the year in senior and reserve.

The aerobics class continues in the pavilion on Thursday evenings from 7.00pm to 8.00pm followed by the Line Dancing at 8.30. A small fee to cover expenses is collected at both classes. If you want to keep fit and loose those extra pounds over the winter period and need an excuse to get away from the house for a couple of hours then these are the classes for you. Interested, just come along on the night, all new members will be made most welcome.

Sunday December 15th has been penned in for the club's AGM so all members should put this in their diary at this early stage and make a point of attending. At least two of the executive committee positions will have to be filled for the year 2003 and there are always places on the general committee for anyone who feels they may have something to offer and can give a little time for the benefit of the community. The South Derry Convention will take place next Tuesday Nov. 12th in Magherafelt and the County Convention will be on Sunday December 8th in Owenbeg.

THE WEEKLY LOTTO

Numbers drawn in the weekly Lotto on Tuesday October Oct. 29th were 2, 5, 9, & 19 and with no winner of the jackpot the consolation prizes of £25 each went to Martin Gallagher of Hillhead and Chris McElhone of Cookstown. Numbers drawn on Monday past November 4th were 7, 12, 17 & 23. Again there was no winner of the jackpot which next week increases to a mind-boggling 3300, yes 3300. Tickets at £1 available from any club member. Choose four correct numbers from 24 and you will win or share the big money. Winners in the Lucky Dip this week Michael McElwee of Broagh and Tom Murphy of Newbridge. Congratulations.

FOOTBALL UPDATE

There is still some senior football to be played this year with the Reserves still in the Graham Cup and the seniors in the McGlinchy Cup. A date has also to be arranged convenient to both clubs for the annual Liam Gribbin Memorial Trophy against Moneyglass.

The U-14B championship final between Castledawson and Glen has been fixed once again this time on Saturday coming, time and venue still not known. The minor match against Desertmartin postponed last Sunday because of the weather has been refixed for this Sunday at Slaughneil time 2.30pm. We would ask all supporters to check the daily papers or with the secretary during the week so as we can come out in numbers and give our young lads the support they deserve.
