ANNUAL U-10 FOOTBALL BLITZ
The fourth annual U-10 football Blitz tournament sponsored by the club was held last Saturday 16th at the Broagh in perfect conditions. Twelve teams took part with Section A consisting of Newbridge, Bellaghy, Glen, Magherafelt, Cargin and Kilrea and Section B Castledawson, Lavey, Ballymaguigan, Foreglen, Clogher and Slaughneil. After three hours of excellent entertainment from these young stars of the future Newbridge, the holders, defeated Ballymaguigan to reach the final where they met Magherafelt who just managed to squeeze out Clogher after extra time. A final between two well-coached teams that was level at the break and finished 3-03 to 1-03 in favour of Newbridge. Peter McGrogan of Newbridge was chosen as player of the final. Credit goes to the Youth Committee who organised the event and to all the people who helped on the day including the referees, the umpires, linesmen, ladies in the kitchen and the shop boys. To the Cargin football club who loaned the small goal posts. Last but by no means least the young footballers themselves who done their clubs proud and were a joy to watch, football played with no strings attached.
YOUTH NEWS
The minors got over the first hurdle in this years South Derry Championship when they played Ogra Mor at Magherafelt last Tuesday evening winning by two points. A close game made more difficult by the sending off of the corner back early in the second half. Good displays from Liam Craig, Nial Gribbin, Conor Scullion, Nial McNicholl and Liam Okane took Castledawson through on the night.
The U-10 panel takes pride of place this week with their outstanding performance at the Blitz. Drawn in a strong section they had great wins against Ballymaguigan, Foreglen and Lavey and just failed to make the semi-finals. Losing only three players for next year’s event they could be strong contenders for the title. Panel – Jarlath Gartland, Nathan Young, Paul McCoy, Michael McElwee, Aidan Keenan, Cormac Martin, Christopher McKeever, Ryan McNally, Stephen O’Hagan and Fintan Mulholland. Congratulations to all the boys and their managers.
The U-12 team travels to the Clogher annual tournament on this Saturday. For further information contact the management or Terrance Gribbin.
The Annual Sponsored Walk organised by the Youth Committee to raise funds for the club will take place this year in early September and this year the underage camogie girls will join in the fun. Sponsor sheets are now out and we would ask all taking part to renew their efforts over the next couple of weeks. There will be a special prize for the one collecting the most money. For further information contact Paddy Henry or Mary McAuley.
SENIOR FOOTBALL
The seniors travel to Foreglen for a Division 1B league match tonight Wednesday 20th for a 7-30pm throw in. Beaten in the Broagh earlier in the season and missing five of the championship team this will be a tough encounter but one that must be won if we are to retain our Top 4 placing. Support is needed. Saturday and a home fixture for both teams against neighbours Newbridge with the Reserves on the field for 6.00pm, followed by the seniors at 7-30pm.
LOTTO
Roisin O’Kane won the £2000 lotto jackpot on Monday August 18th with the winning numbers 3, 12, 15 & 22. Congratulations to Roisin. New jackpot starts next Monday at £500 for four correct numbers. Continued support very much appreciated from all our members and friends.

The committee is looking for suggestions from the members as to what might be worth running in the pavilion during the winter evenings for adults and children. A folk/dance night is planned for September and a “Night at The Races” in October. The pavilion is always available to members at no cost for party nights and a bar can be arranged if sufficient notice is given.
