Weekly Report January 14th - 14/01/2002
Numbers drawn in the club lotto on Monday January 14th 2002 were 1, 2, 18, 24 and with no winner of the jackpot the consolation prizes of £25 each went to Paul Craig and Cathy Doyle. Next week the jackpot rises to 3100 a super cash prise for anyone who can pick the four lucky numbers. The committee appreciates the continued efforts of all promoters and would remind them that returns will be collected between 8.30pm and 8.50pm with the draw at 9.00pm.
The annual big bingo session, which is run to raise much needed funds for the club, will be held this year on Sunday January 27th at 3.00pm in the Bellaghy GAA Social Centre. Details of prises in next weeks' issue. Please keep this date free, your support is very much welcome. A short meeting will take place of all committee members after the Lotto draw on Monday next to organise the leaflet distribution for the bingo.
The annual mass for club members past and present will be held in the pavilion on Thursday January 22nd at 8.00pm. All members and friends of the club are asked to note this and come along.
Development ticket sellers note, a bigger effort is now required from everyone to secure sales for the next few weeks. The committee still needs urgent help from members past and present to help in this venture. Any member or friend of the club who feels they can contribute by selling at work or to friends further afield please do not delay and contact the chairman or treasurer immediately.
A grand fund raising dinner is being organised by the club in the Tullyglass Hotel Ballymena on Saturday March 23rd with special guests Pat Spillane and Fergus Slattery and MC Gerry Donnelly. Any business, club member or group of members who would like to organise a table of ten for the grand occasion and support the club in this venture should contact John Keenan, Seamus Gribbin, Gerry McCann, Seamus Keenan, Sean Gribbin, Brendan Kennan or Sean Cushley for details. Dress will be formal.
All senior players are asked to have their annual £10 membership fees for 2002 paid to the Registrar Brendan Heaney before the football season starts on Sunday February 3rd when the team travels to Ballymaguigan for the first round of the Larkin Cup. Any player or other member wishing to join the Life or 10 year plan should contact Paddy or Terry for payment details.
The Youth Committee will hold their annual meeting in the pavilion on this Sunday January 20th at 5.00pm sharp. It is hoped that all those involved in coaching and administration last season will return and continue with the good work started. However any parent or other member who has time to spare and would like to get involved this year please come along, with fifty to sixty young players to be supervised and coached all help is needed and appreciated.
The committee is looking for preferably club members, ex players or the like who might be interested in being involved with the management of the senior and Reserve teams, a squad trainer/coach is being sought at present but back up staff is required. If you are interested and would like to commit time to ensuring that the teams get the best possible preparation and opportunity to return to the top flight then contact Sean Cushley as soon as possible.
Training for the senior football squad has begun and will continue on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7.30pm and on Sundays at 1.00pm for the foreseeable future. Anyone who intends to play for the club this year but is unable to attend the training at present for whatever reason should advise Dermot Heaney, Tom O'Kane or Sean Cushley immediately.
After a break of a few weeks the popular table quiz returns on this Friday the 18th with Philip Bradley in the chair. Doors are open 8.30pm, quiz begins at 9.00pm and refreshments are available. All money raised goes to the senior players training fund and this being the case it is hoped that as many players as possible will come out and support.
The adult ceili class has recommenced after the Christmas break on Tuesday evenings at 8.00pm and the Line dancing class has also returned on Thursdays at 8.30pm. Both classes look for support from their regulars but new members are always welcome.
